Mine Mapping
It has now been 15 years since AAM revolutionised the field of mine mapping. We re-engineered our mine mapping process to focus upon our client objectives which are consistent reliability and rapid data delivery.
Since 1992, many mine sites have continuously received monthly aerial survey services that deliver entire pit and related waste dump surveys within three days.
Rapid mine mapping turn-around means that the data is acquired, processed and delivered in time for end of month volume calculations and reconciliations.
Mike Adams, AAM Mining Sector Manager explains, “Essentially we realised that mine mapping needs to closely replicate mine survey; both in style of pickup and feature identification.” The obvious difference and advantage of data capture from aerial photography is that the entire mine is surveyed in a matter of hours. This is complemented with photography’s ability to collect information about precariously located pit features impossible for the mine surveyor to reach.
Mine survey staff, relieved of most of the tedious and dangerous field survey tasks, have more time to attend to more important matters. All site staff enjoy the benefit of beginning each month with a completely up to date mine survey data set on which to base their operations, planning, and reporting.
AAM continues to expand and improve the range of products and levels of service supplied to a diverse range of both domestic and global mining customers.
Our range of products has grown to include:
- IKONOS high resolution satellite imagery
- High resolution aerial ortho imagery mosaics
- LiDAR derived 3D terrain models (airborne and ground based)
We remain open and interested in new ideas on how we can better serve mining clients. If you have any suggestions, please email us.
