Terrestrial Laser Scanners - Faster Than Ever

Our Industrial Metrology Group has recently added a Leica HDS6000 to its suite of laser scanners. There are two main types of laser scanners on the marketplace and these types are governed by how they resolve distance observations:
- time-of-flight (TOF) and
- phase-based.
TOF scanners, like the Leica ScanStation and Leica HDS3000, are better known for long distance laser scanning and are great for large buildings and mine pit walls. Phase-based scanners are suited for fast and close-in laser scanning projects, for example, as-built documentation of piping and equipment in refineries.
Throughout Australia and South Africa, AAM has been deploying both types of terrestrial laser scanners, generating 3D models for clients and compiling SiteSeeTM products. The use of SiteSee has reduced the amount of field work carried out in high risk industrial environments through the viewing of high-resolution spherical photography.
