The Rialto Regeneration is a complex refurbishment of the lobby, lower levels and courtyard spaces at Melbourne’s iconic Rialto Towers. The development integrates commercial, retail and food spaces, extends the lobby space with a state-of-the-art gridshell roof and adds a new 6-storey office building connected into the existing tower.
In 2014, with developer Equiset, AAM’s laser scanning team captured the existing as-built structure for project planning. They provided Equiset and its consultants a single 3D model dataset – a shared “single point of truth” for design.
Construction of the project was awarded to Built, who in 2015 selected AAM as site surveyors.
The high rise construction experience of AAM’s surveyors, modellers and specialists enables them to problem-solve during construction and deliver a single dataset of as-builts and building models. To achieve the necessary millimetre accuracy, the team employs innovative survey control solutions based on advanced surveying and laser scanning techniques. In particular, the grid shell canopy has exceptionally tight tolerances for installation. The onsite surveyors successfully meet this challenge with advanced set out and validation techniques. This is especially important as the canopy attach points are unique in position and orientation at every location.
