AAM sets the benchmark in spatial precision for the VCCC project

AAM was the site surveyor for Victoria’s landmark $1 billion Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre (VCCC), designed and constructed by Grocon.

As Australia’s first ever, purpose-built comprehensive cancer centre, the VCCC has attracted international interest, with Joseph R Biden Jr, Vice President of the United States of America, touring the facility over the weekend.

AAM was the site surveyor for the entire life of the landmark VCCC project.

AAM were an integral member of the Project Delivery team, working closely with project coordinators, site engineers, the façade teams and sub-contractors. The AAM site survey team was responsible for servicing all spatial and survey needs over the life of the project. The challenges of a very large site with multiple work fronts were managed by active engagement within the project team, coupled with a focus to deliver value and ensure all trades and consultants were provided the information they needed.

Our involvement with this project started in 2012, when, in preparation for the VCCC construction, AAM scanned the Royal Melbourne Hospital to create an accurate BIM. During construction,  tasks included dilapidation surveys, scanning for modelling and BIM creation, title and cadastral surveys, construction set out, monitoring, dimensional control, survey positioning of all structural elements and documentation of as-constructed features.

The primary tasks included early dilapidation works, scanning for model and BIM creation, title and cadastral works, construction set out, monitoring, dimensional control, survey positioning of all structural elements and documentation of as-constructed features.

Traditional survey methods delivered accurate and precise survey control across the many work-fronts, whilst advanced survey techniques like 3D laser scanning allowed for better documentation of as-built conditions.

“AAM has thoroughly enjoyed the construction process and is proud to be a part of this valuable addition to Australia’s medical research capabilities,” said AAM’s Braith McClure, General Manager Surveying.
