City of Sydney 3D Model
Overview
AAM provided 3D modelling services to City of Sydney for over two decades and was commissioned to update 4,300 buildings across the LGA. We were required to process and deliver updates using highly-accurate 3D building models.
Situation
A large, dynamic urban centre boasting several complex areas requiring professional navigation. These included strict conditions and timeframes for feasibility studies and development applications for council, assessors, the public and applicants.

Action
AAM is a trusted 3D modelling advisor for City of Sydney. Data was captured by aircraft, allowing us to digitise the building points using photogrammetric mapping.
This updated model helped streamline Sydney’s ongoing design and approval procedures.
Uses included:
- Development applications were easily assessed using the model as well as internal processes at council.
- The design of the city’s new LEP were kept in check.
- As-built structures were analysed using accurate 3D models.
- Shadow analysis
Result
A more accurate 3D building model assisted with decision processes. Assessments for line-of -sight, shadowing and Local Environmental Planning were conducted.
