LiDAR for Chirano Mine
Overview
This project involved aerial Lidar and ground surveying activity covering 430 square kilometres Ghana’s Western Region within three months.
.
Situation
Open pit and underground ore are processed at The Chirano plant processes ore with an annual 3.5 million tonnes capacity. This involves crushing, ball mill grinding, leaching, and CIL.
Gold is also recovered by an elution circuit. An updated DEM and Orthophoto was required for improved management, planning and design of a new tailings dam.
Action
AAM were commissioned to conduct LiDAR surveys. We captured the required LiDAR data to produce and deliver a LiDAR Digital Elevation Model (DEM), 0.25m contours and a 10cm GSD colour orthophoto mapping dataset.
.
Result
Three new dam site possibilities were identified leading to a quicker design phase initiation while revealing anomalies on the existing systems.
