Woolpert was proud to sponsor the ISO/TC 211 Geographic Information/ Geomatics 59th Hybrid Plenary meeting in Sydney this week. Hosted by Standards Australia, Standards in Action invites international delegates for a week of presentations and discussion on global geospatial data standards.
Woolpert Vice President and Managing Director Asia-Pacific Brian Nicholls, Woolpert Vice President, and Director – Advisory and Innovation Dr Zaffar Sadiq Mohamed-Ghouse, and Delivery Manager – Geospatial Advisory Prajakta Patil were in attendance.
Dr Zaffar Mohamed-Ghouse presented on the challenges and opportunities in implementing geospatial standards and specifications, within the Policy and Governance session. Zaffar has contributed to ISO TC 211 through Standards Australia since 2010. He also serves on the Board of The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC).
Brian Nicholls shared an industry perspective on implementing geospatial standards and specifications. “The standards need to inform the specification. Standards not only establish a technical foundation but also provide a business foundation, supporting efficiency, governance and quality,” said Brian. Drawing from the standards paradox, he highlighted the need for balance between innovation and standards and referred to the Discoverable, Accessible, Interoperable, Authoritative, User Centric and Extensible framework for developing specifications.
ISO/TC 211 Geographic information/Geomatics is a Technical Committee dedicated to standardization in the field of digital geographic information. Their work aims to establish a structured set of standards for information concerning objects or phenomena that are directly or indirectly associated with a location relative to the Earth, relating to methods, tools, and services for data management.
Woolpert is pleased to continue supporting standards development through sponsoring the ISO/211 59th Plenary hybrid meeting week.
