International Women’s Day: Forging a path to inspire inclusion

We at Woolpert and across our family of companies are honoured to work with incredible women each and every day. Whether clients, colleagues, mentors, friends, or some combination therein, these women our integral to our success.

On International Women’s Day (IWD) (Friday 8 March), Woolpert endeavoured to maximise awareness and learnings on the progress made toward gender equality and the work that still needs to be done to inspire real, tangible change for women in geospatial. From Woolpert-lead panels to wider industry reflections and shared insights, our teams were eager to join in on this global day of action

International Women’s Day is a celebration of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women worldwide, and is a call to action for accelerating gender parity and raising awareness about women’s equality. This year’s theme is ‘Inspire Inclusion,’ and emphasiszes the importance of diversity and empowerment in all aspects of society. It encourages everyone to recognise the unique perspectives and contributions of women from all walks of life

Several of Woolpert’s very own inspirational women joined in on the conversation, attending the Geospatial Council of Australia’s (GCA) IWD events across the country. Themes explored included empowering younger generations, finding, and using one’s voice, growing women in senior leadership roles, and recognising one’s own influence in bringing others along for the journey, facilitating meaningful connections and mentorship.

Melbourne-based Product Specialist Bernadette Tan, and Mapping Team member Amanda Li, as well as Brisbane-based Project Manager Alexandra Perry, Digital Solutions Support Consultant Dilki Wanniarachchi, and Geocirrus Lead and Client Success Specialist Maria (May) Riera were among the room of advocates and changemakers

The Asia-Pacific Woolpack connected, in our offices and virtually, to continue these important conversations, with a panel discussion on how we as an organisation can do our part in forging a gender equal world. Featuring the wonderful women and men of Woolpert, the session emphasised the importance of diversity and empowerment, and celebrated the brilliance of women in geospatial. Woolpert speakers included Megha Datta, Leah Briers, Sarah Iacono, Dr Zaffar Mohamed-Ghouse and Paula Thrussell, with MC Silvia Hunziker, Woolpert Asia-Pacific HR Manager.

“International Women’s Day belongs to everyone, everywhere.”

We joined with our Woolpert colleagues around the world to embrace and demonstrate, with hands in hearts the #IWD2024 theme to #InspireInclusion.
