This month, Woolpert LiDAR team member Mariah Jinks, travelled north from her base in Melbourne, to the Brisbane office, meeting her colleagues for the very first time, face-to-face.
Upon her visit, we had the pleasure of sitting down with Mariah, learning more of her story and how she came to be a part of the Woolpack.
Mariah's Story
Mariah joined Woolpert’s Asia-Pacific team back in 2019, ahead of the pandemic. Having moved from another aerial mapping company, she brought with her a wealth of knowledge and learnings, and a strong drive to embark on a wider variety of projects.
Backed by a Geomatic Engineering degree, her journey into LiDAR followed on from working with aerial imagery with her previous employer. Mariah was first introduced to LiDAR during her studies, where there was only one dedicated subject within the program. Little did she know that she would later find her way LiDAR, and eventually Woolpert, as a valued member of the LiDAR team.
In her current role, Mariah enjoys the diversity of projects presented, and finds great meaning and reward in learning the impact these outputs have for industry and beyond.
The LiDAR team: Connection and Collaboration
Mariah’s visit to Brisbane was most notable as it was the very first time, she was able to meet her team in person. Working together closely via Teams for years, this opportunity to meet face-to-face fortified the LiDAR team’s working relationships and presented the perfect opportunity to collaborate and share knowledge.
As the sole LiDAR team member located in the Melbourne office, Mariah is well-connected to the wider processing team virtually, including the mighty Malaysian team, calling on one another to problem-solve and share learnings.
A key area of interest for Mariah and the LiDAR team is the Terrain Mapper software, which supports the latest imagery tech to be introduced to Woolpert’s toolkit. Woolpert’s enhanced mapping capability presents a new and exciting challenge to the team, creating new processes and workflows to uncover efficiencies, and produce high quality geospatial data for our clients.
Looking to the Future
With our teams spread throughout the Asia-Pacific, communication and connectivity is key. It is moments like these that we look forward to.
Mariah shares that she is grateful for the opportunity, meeting colleagues both long-standing and new, and awaits her next trip to sunny Queensland soon!
